विषय- छत्तीसगढ़ में महिला शिक्षक सोनी सोड़ी के खिलाफ पुलिस अत्याचार के खिलाफ आपके कारगर हस्तक्षेप की अपेक्षा!

हम पेशे से पत्रकार छत्तीसगढ़ में शिक्षिका सोनी सोड़ी के खिलाफ पुलिस अत्याचार की लगातार आती खबरों से न केवल शर्मसार है बल्कि हम समाज और व्यवस्था में कमजोर तबके के लोगों के खिलाफ बढ़ती अमानवीय असंवेदनशीलता को लेकर विचलित भी हैं। बल्कि इससे बड़ा सच तो है कि हालात के बयान करने में हम अपने शब्दों को पहली बार चूकते देख रहे हैं। 

आपको ये खबर होगी कि छत्तीसगढ़ में शिक्षका सोनी सोड़ी को जिस पुलिस अधिकारी के नेतृत्व में अमानवीय यातनाएं दी गई उसे गणतंत्र दिवस के मौके पर राष्ट्रीय सम्मान दिया गया। हम यह समझ पाने में खुद को असमर्थ पा रहे हैं कि आखिर कमजोर तबकों की महिलाओं और सुदूर इलाके की महिलाओं के खिलाफ होने वाले अत्याचारों को लेकर सत्ता और समाज की कथित मुख्यधारा में इतनी असंवेदनशीलता का क्या अर्थ निकाला जाए। मणिपुर की उम्रदराज की महिलाओं को नंगे होकर इस तख्ती के साथ प्रदर्शन करना पड़ा था कि आओ हमारे साथ बलात्कार करों। यह मानव सभ्यता के लिए शर्मनाक घटना थी। लेकिन हमने अपने मुख्यधारा के समाज में उतनी ही निर्मम असंवेदनशीलता देखी। 

सोनी सोड़ी के मामले में तो वह खुद चीख चीखकर कह रही है कि छत्तीसगढ़ में पुलिस ने उसके गुप्तांगों में पत्थर डालें। क्या किसी संभ्रांत घर की महिला अगर इस तरह के आरोप लगाती तो हमें व्यवस्था में इस कदर चुप्पी देखने को मिलती? आपको मालूम होगा कि बागपत में माया त्यागी के खिलाफ पुलिस के बलात्कार की घटना को लेकर पूरे देश में व्यापक रोष देखा गया था। समाज का प्रभावशाली तबका न्याय के तमाम सिद्दांतों और कानून एवं व्यवस्था के दायरे से निकलकर बलात्कारी को सजा ए मौत सुनाने के लिए तैयार था। सोनी सोड़ी ने जब अपने खिलाफ अमानवीय अत्याचार का रोना रोया तो उसकी मेडिकल जांच भी करायी गई और उसकी शिकायत को ठीक माना गया। लेकिन उसके बावजूद उसे पुलिस के हवाले सौप दिया गया। वह जेल से लगातार अपने खिलाफ अत्याचारों को लिखकर पूरे देश और समाज को सुनाना चाहती है। उन्होंने अपने पिछले पत्र में जो दर्दनाक दास्ता बयां किया है हमें उसे शब्दश: आपके सामने रखने में परेशानी हो रही है। आखिर कैसे उसे सरेआम उसे दी जाने वाली गालियों, जो कि बलात्कार की श्रेणी में आती है, को यहां रखें ? सोनी सोड़ी एक शिक्षका है और उन्हें उसके सामने जिस तरह से पतीत, अनैतिक, चरित्रहीन पुलिस के अधिकारी कह रहे हैं, यह आम आदिवासी, दलित और कमजोर वर्ग की महिलाओं के बारे में पुलिस की धृणित सोच का एक उदाहरण भर है। 

हम सोनी सोड़ी के पत्र के कुछ वाक्यों को यहां जरूर प्रस्तुत करना चाहेंगे। 

वह लिख रहीं है—

1) जब मेरे कपड़े उतारे जा रहे थे ,उस वक्त ऐसा लग रहा था कोई आये और मुझे बचा लें पर ऐसा नहीं हुआ। 

2) मुझे करंट शॉट देने, मुझे कपड़े उतार कर नंगा करने या मेरे गुप्तांगों में बेदर्दी के साथ कंकड –गिट्टी डालने से क्या नक्सलवाद खत्म हो जाएगा ? 

3) पुलिस ऑफिसर अंकित गर्ग मुझे नंगा करके ये कहता है कि तुम रंडी औरत हो,........इस शरीर का सौदा नक्सली लीडरों से करती हो ......... 

हमें यह समझना मुश्किल हो रहा है कि सोनी सोड़ी के इतना कुछ सुनाने के बाद भी कैसे हम अपनी व्यवस्था के दुनिया के सबसे बड़े लोकतंत्र होने का दावा करते हैं। हमें लगता है कि सोनी सोड़ी को लेकर न्यायापालिका की अब तक जो भूमिका रही है वह ठीक नहीं रही है। आपको तत्काल इस मामले में कारगर हस्तक्षेप करना चाहिए । जिस समाज और व्यवस्था में कमजोर महिलाओं के साथ बलात्कार या घृणित अपराध करने वाला इस बात को लेकर आश्वस्त हो कि उसका बाल बांका नहीं हो सकता, वह वास्तव में मरते हुए समाज का परिचायक है। सरकार ने तो सोनी सोड़ी द्वारा आरोपित पुलिस अधिकारी को सम्मानित करते लोगों के प्रति अपना भरोसा खोया है। हम आपसे एक उम्मीद कर रहे हैं।

Subject: Seeking your strong intervention in the case of brutal police atrocities against Soni 

Sori, a female teacher of Chhattisgarh

We, the journalists, are not only ashamed of the news of brutal police atrocities against Soni Sori, a female teacher of Chhattisgarh, but are deeply shocked by the growing insensitiveness towards the poor and weaker sections of the society too. This is more disgusting that for the first we are facing the dearth of appropriate words to narrate her agony. 

You must be aware of the fact that the Police officer, under whose command callous torture has been inflicted upon Soni Sori, was rewarded with a national honour on this Republic Day. We fail to understand that what does such insensitiveness towards the atrocities against the women of weaker sections of the society actually mean. Memories are still afresh of an incident where old aged women of Manipur were forced to demonstrate with placards inscribing “Come and rape us!” This was the most shameful incident of our history. At that time too, same kind of cruel insensitiveness was witnessed in the so called ‘mainstream’ of our society. 

In Soni Sori case, she herself is crying that Chhattisgarh Police filled stones in her private parts. Could we afford the stoic silence had a woman from a ‘respectable’ family leveled the same charge? You must be knowing that there was a nationwide anger against the rape of Maya Tyagi by Police. At that time, a powerful section of the society was very vocal and wanted to hang the culprit bypassing all the basic principles of law and justice. A medical test was conducted when Soni Sori complained about the brutal torture and her grievances were found to be true. Still, she was handed over to the Police. She wants to share her agonies with whole nation by writing from the jail. We find it very tough to explain the pain she had narrated in her last letter itself. We are virtually clueless that how those abuses, which literally fall in the category of verbal rape, can be put before you. Soni Sori is a teacher and the way Police officers are terming her a characterless, is a sheer example of hatred of Police for the women of the poor and weaker sections of the society. 

We would like to reproduce certain sentences of Ms. Sori’s letter here. 

She has written- 

1) When my clothes were being removed, I hoped somebody come to save me. But it didn’t happen. 

2) Will the problem of Naxalism be solved by giving electric shock, making me nude & filling stones in my private parts? 

3) After making me nude Police officer Ankit Garg says: “You are a whore… you sell your body to naxal leaders…” 

Can we now claim that we are a democratic nation despite such revelation by Soni Sori? We feel that judiciary has not played its role appropriately in Ms. Sori case. It is imperative that you make a strong intervention in this case. A society, where an offender of crime against women of weaker sections is assured of a safe refuge, is virtually dead and meaningless. Public has lost faith in a government which has dared to reward an accused Police officer. We are pinning our hopes on you.
